Schijvens receives 81% score in the Convenant for sustainable clothing and textile

July 17, 2020

Schijvens has been a participant in the Dutch textile covenant since the beginning, initiated by Minister Ploumen at the time. The covenant is a collaboration between the parties to achieve a more sustainable textile sector. Within the covenant, the government (Foreign Affairs), the trade associations, NGOs such as Unicef, Solidaridad and Fourpawns, employee associations CNV and FNV and the clothing brands are active in jointly implementing improvements. The clothing brands must annually explain their improvement steps, perform a risk analysis and draw up an action plan. This action plan is checked annually by the Social Economic Council (SER) and a score is obtained from this. Schijvens has grown from 63 to 81%, showing that it is taking good steps in areas such as living wages, more sustainable raw materials and improvements in the paint factories. Schijvens has again set itself targets for the coming year.
