Brabant family business produces largest clothing collection in the Netherlands

Hilvarenbeek, 28 May 2020 – Employees of Albert Heijn will receive new work clothing. Schijvens Corporate Fashion from Hilvarenbeek has largely produced this collection in a circular way: from recycled clothing and recycled PET. Employees themselves formed the basis of the new clothing: they assessed the different designs and tested the clothing for wearing comfort and freedom of movement. The clothing is in line with the new Albert Heijn store concept with a lot of attention to fresh assortment. From the end of May, the clothes can be seen in the store for the first time.

Owner Shirley Rijnsdorp-Schijvens is very enthusiastic about the new collection: “The fact that we were able to design the largest clothing collection in the Netherlands is a crowning achievement of our 150 years of experience and a reward for our long-term commitment to sustainability. With this collection we want to show the Netherlands that things can really be different in the textile industry!”

The company clothing is largely made of worn or worn clothing in combination with cutting waste and recycled PET, so that the yarn remains strong, colourfast and durable. All old corporate clothing is handed in to Schijvens Corporate Fashion to eventually recycle into new circular corporate clothing. Schijvens won the Dutch Circular Award Business in early 2020 for its commitment to a circular economy. In addition, Schijvens Corporate Fashion scores high with the Fair Wear Foundation for efforts to ensure good working conditions in countries where the clothing is produced.

Contemporary and familiar

The new clothing was designed and tested together with a team of store employees. It should not only be comfortable but also contemporary. The result: recognizable Albert Heijn blue with new elements such as denim aprons and orange color accents. The clothing is initially provided to employees in the Albert Heijn supermarkets and Albert Heijn to go. Employees of the delivery service will follow next year.
